Waxcap - Yellow

Hygrocybe flavescens

Description:

Waxy orange yellow cap that gets lighter yellow as it ages. Stipe is hollow and gills are subdistant and abnexed. Gills are waxy and cap is about 2 inches across. Stipe is 1 1/2 inches long. Cap is sticky and forest debris sticks to it. Edge of cap is uneven and cracking as it ages.

Habitat:

A lot of them found fruiting in April on our land under cedar trees and in the leaf and conifer litter.

I tested out the gills and when you rub one between your fingers, they really are waxy. What a beautiful mushroom!
