Octopus rubescens
Much smaller than the Giant Pacific Octopus, this species weighs up to 450 grams. It can be differentiated from small GPO's by the presence of three eyelash-like papillae below the eyes. This spotting looked like a full grown specimen.
The Red Pacific Octopus is native to the North American west coast. This spotting was at Chup Point at the entrance to Alberni Inlet close to Barkley Sound.
