Pacific Red Octopus

Octopus rubescens

Description:

Much smaller than the Giant Pacific Octopus, this species weighs up to 450 grams. It can be differentiated from small GPO's by the presence of three eyelash-like papillae below the eyes. This spotting looked like a full grown specimen.

Habitat:

The Red Pacific Octopus is native to the North American west coast. This spotting was at Chup Point at the entrance to Alberni Inlet close to Barkley Sound.
