A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Melanerpes carolinus
This specimen was observed after being caught in a mist net during a County Charter School's ongoing bird banding project to evaluate the biodiversity of its 26 acre property. It was evaluated and the data recorded, banded, and then released. The property is a mix of various trees i.e. pines, oaks, etc and other vegetation w/ several ponds. It has shown to be a home for several migratory species of birds.
