American Red Squirrel

Tamiasciurus hudsonicus

Description:

An American Red Squirrel on an orange half

Habitat:

In our front and back yard, which butts up to a freshwater lake on one side and a marsh or swamp in the far back of our property. Within 5 miles of native prairie grasses, farm fields and woods

Notes:

When upset these guys have a slightly unnerving chirp or bark however once they relax they're actually quite sweet in temperament. I've seen all our squirrels and chipmunks eating on a variety of (unsalted) peanuts, black-oil sunflower seeds, orange halves as well as other fruit like: watermelon, Bing Cherries, sliced apples, etc...This winter I've even seen our Eastern Grey Squirrels eating on the beef suet put out for the birds.
