Red-breasted Nuthatch

Sitta canadensis

Description:

All images are what I believe to be a Red-breasted Nuthatch

Habitat:

On birch trees where I have a basket filled with beef suet. Trees and suet are near a (frozen) lake and within five miles of wetlands, farmlands and woods.

Notes:

This is the first winter I've observed Red-breasted Nuthatches in our area. We've always had White-breasted Nuthatches but not the Red-breasted which I found strange since we had them in the Twin Cities and I'd seen them further north in Tamarac Wildlife Refuge, an hour north, north-west of here.
