Organ Pipe Mud Dauber Nests

Trypoxylon politum

Description:

Empty nests of the Organ Pipe Mud Dauber. Each "pipe" is perhaps 6" long. The holes in the sides show where each new wasp hatched out.

Habitat:

In the rafters of a fairly-dilapidated and abandoned (fortunately!) pavilion on the far side of Fern Hammock. This is at the end of a nice hike on the "Nature Trail" leading away from the main spring swimming area. Well worth the hike on a hot muggy day. It is GORGEOUS.
