Dactylorhiza praetermissa
Late flowering this year so a lot smaller and fewer flowers in bloom than usual at this time of year. As the name suggests it favours wet/ marsh areas. Grows to around 50cm in height and common throughout The UK and Europe.
seen by the marshes at Old moor reserve, owned by the RSPB.
very similar to the northern marsh orchid but differentiated by the rounder shape of the lip. The Northern has a much more angular lip.

Thanks for taking the time to look through some of my spottings Kathleen, The orchids are very late here due to the coldest spring for 50 years here in Britain! there are 3 other native orchids in my collection but here is the early purple species that was the only one fully open:
