Ragged Robin

Lychnis flos-cuculi,

Description:

A very pretty pink wildflower. The flowers themselves have five narrow petals deeply divided into four lobes giving the flower an untidy, ragged appearance, hence its common name. This species is in decline in Britain usually blamed on a change in farming techniques and draining of wetlands.

Habitat:

seen by the marshes at Old Moor reserve which is owned by the RSPB.

Notes:

widespread across Europe but declining in Britain.
