Little Egret

Egretta garzetta immaculata

Description:

The Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) is a small white heron, and is a member of the family Ardeidae. E.g. immaculata is a sub-species in Australia and NZ. Globally, the Little Egret is not listed as a threatened species. That is with the exception of Victoria in Australia. On the 2007 advisory list of threatened vertebrate fauna in Victoria, the Little Egret is listed as endangered.

Habitat:

Low-lying areas such as swamps, lakes, streams, mangroves, coastal and inland wetlands.

Notes:

This Little Egret was spotted at the lake on the University of Queensland Campus. It's a fantastic spot for waterbirds of all varieties, and is just across the river from my home. Worth another visit. In fact, many more visits. http://www.uq.edu.au/sustainability/uq-s...
