Yellow caps with brown scales. Cap sizes approximately 1-1.5 inches. Stipe shaggy and gills light brown.
Spotted growing in a cluster on a fallen birch tree in a mostly deciduous forest.

Thanks for the suggestions Doren. It was definitely on birch.
Either Pholiota squarrosa or Pholiota squarrosoides. They can be difficult to distinguish without a microscope.

Could you tell what kind of tree it was on? Looks like it may be birch.
