Brown-headed Cowbird

Molothrus ater

Description:

Adult males have deep chocolate brown head with a slight shine. The rest of the bird is deep black with slight green sheen. Dark eyes and pointed bill. Females are a dusty brown with fine streaking on chest and a light colored throat.

Habitat:

spotted in mixed wooded area around a lake.

Notes:

A year ago I experienced females and immature Cowbirds. Today at the lake I spotted two small flocks of mostly Adult males and a few females. The noise they make which almost sound like a male Red-wing Blackbird, with the gurgling and whistles. These two flocks were like watching kids getting into mischief. They would chase each other and bounce from tree to tree. Lots of courtship and following the leader.
