Cuckoo

Eudynamys scolopaceus

Description:

Big birds with striped underparts. Dirty brown colouring. Loud call, more like a scream.

Habitat:

On our school ground in the middle of Singapore, near Orchard Road.

Notes:

I have been hearing these birds all over Singapore never knowing what it was, until I was under this tree. It was definitely these two birds making all that noise.

The female makes a shrill kik-kik-kik... call. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asian_koel

( We believe she calls to signal the male that she has successfully laid an egg and that he need not lead the poor crow (or whichever hoist) a merry dance anymore.. It is a loud and shrill call...not melodious at all.

Yes I agree, they looks like Asian Koel, but what threw me off was that these are both females and I definitely heard the distinctive Koel call, but only males sing (at least that was what i read on line )
