Great Crested Grebe

Podiceps cristatus

Description:

The largest and the most common of grebes, some 50 cm in length. Photos 1 and 2, adults in winter plumage, dark grey and whitish, with pale bill and without colourful appendices. Photo 3 shows an adult at the end of summer, with juvenile.

Habitat:

Aquatic bird, always associated with lakes. Here, on Geneva lake where it is a resident breeder and common.
