Goldenrod Hooded Owlet Moth

Cucullia asteroides

Description:

Family: Noctuidae. Subfamily: Cuculliinae. (Hooded Owlets) Length: 26-29 mm. Rests with their wings folded and their forelegs outstretched. Thick thorax. Ash gray FW has obvious reddish brown blotches along costal margin. Orbicular and reniform spots are parlty outlined blackish. White HW has a narrow (Broader in females) dusky ST line. Hosts: Aster and goldenrod. Also known as The Asteroid.

Habitat:

Woodlands and larger gardens. Came to light in backyard.

Notes:

My first spot uploaded here at Project Noah was the caterpillar of this moth. This is the first time I have seen the adult moth.
