Io Moth

Automeris io

Family: Saturniidae > Subfamily: Hemileucinae > Tribe: Hemileucini. The lovely and showy male of the species, i have found they are far less likely to sit and show the eyespots compared to the females who are larger and a kind of rust color. Native to the eastern United States and infamous for having stings barbs as a caterpillar.
