Description:

Fiery skimmers have a distinctly broadened abdomen and their bodies are noticeably shorter than their wing span. Males have golden-brown thoraxes and red abdomens and females are in brown yellow color. The species ranges across eastern and northern Australia, the Moluccas, New Guinea and neighboring islands. The species inhabits boggy seepages, streams and swamps.

Habitat:

Although the description describes the typical habitat, the spotting location is not particularly wet. Spotted on lengkuas (Alpinia galanga) in a semi-urban situation of houses, gardens and patches of disturbed forest. This is in the equatorial tropics of northern New Guinea.
