White-lined Sphinx Moth

Hyles lineata

Description:

A large moth that resembles a hummingbird when in flight. Easy to see where it gets its name with the broad angled lines down its wings and multiple thinner vertical lines across its wings.

Habitat:

Inside my house which is surrounded by a mixed forest near wetlands.

Notes:

This one flew into our house from our outside porch and one of my daughter's thought it was a hummingbird at first, but realized it was a moth shortly after she said it. The reaction of everyone was: "Get the camera!"
