Western Sandpiper

Description:

A heavily streaked sandpiper that can be distinguished from other sandpipers by its rufous patches on its cheek and wings during its breeding season.

Habitat:

Spotted at The Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge. This long narrow spit extends out over 5 miles. They are coastal migrators that prefer mudflats and sandy beaches.
