Paralaea beggaria
A bit like a rainbow fruit strap, this little caterpillar was swinging on it's bungee cord from a gum tree. Crazy-paved pink/purple head shield, interesting planar shapes at the rear end. About 20mm long.
Descending on a thread from a eucalyptus in a local nature reserve.
Failry sure it's a Paralaea species but not so sure of which one. They change considerably as the develop. This might be Paralaea sarcodes - http://lepidoptera.butterflyhouse.com.au... or Paralaea beggaria (MoV #5)

Thanks Bagya, Saurabh, Leuba. Definitely 'Mars Attacks' leader... hope his head doesn't explode.

Great find - don't know what it looks more like ...a Chinese Dragon or the leader from Mars Attacks !!
Very nice!
Ha! I understand Ernst. Maybe they could be copied in metal as a pin or brooch.
