Spotted Oleander Caterpillar Moth

Description:

I believed this was a Spotted Oleander Caterpillar Moth, Empyreuma affinis from internet searches, but a friend of mine, who knows her bugs, said she thought it was a Scarlet Oleander Moth. But I can't find any information on the name Scarlet Oleander Moth. So which is it?

Hi Hillary, Common names for all species can be extremely variable at times so it is quite likely that Scarlet is an alternate name. For accuracy we always use the scientific name. It certainly looks like Empyreuma affinis, but I am not an expert on US moths, Jacob Gorneau is our expert. http://www.projectnoah.org/users/Jacob%2...
