Dunlin

Calidris alpina

Description:

medium sized shorebirds in a flock - I think they are willets but want a second opinion as the beak looks too long. The second picture gives a size indicator with semi--domestic ducks

Habitat:

bay's edge

Notes:

Birding on mission bay is perfect right now

I am not that familiar with Dunlin. I thought that they might be Sanderlings.

If the mallards are wild, they've been completely habituated to humans. But the little shorebirds wouldn't let me get any closer... I suppose Dunlin is a possible ID. I did think their bills were somewhat different from the willets I've seen

Most of the shorebirds I see are Dunlin (Calidris alpina), and the Mallards look pretty wild to me.
