Brown Eucalypt Sawfly

Description:

Approx 50mm, tan with few white coarse hairs, fat segmented tail,...

Habitat:

Dense dry slerophyll eucalyptus forest with scrubby undergrowth. This one on very dry twiggy plant with no apparent greenery (dead?). Was it looking for somewhere to pupate?

Notes:

In spite of how pic#1 looks his is not a burnt koala.

I like your suggestion. To explain the light colored head, consider the top larvae in this pic [with a light head]. I would assume it is newly molted. http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_...
