Pileated Woodpecker

Dryocopus pileatus

Notes:

This bird had been driving my wife and I crazy. We know that she has been clearing out a nest in this one tree, however, we did not know she was working on a secondary hole. Trying to get a clear photo of her was like playing wack-a-mole. One moment she would peak out of one hole; the next moment-the other. Eventually I caught her as she popped out of the hole I was below. What a beautiful bird.

Wonderful spotting! The pileated woodpeckers around here are very skittish and hard to photograph.
