Encoelia furfuracea Spring Hazel Cup (Roth) P.Karst. Orange-brown cups with a pale creamy warty outer surface up to 15mm across opening to form irregular cups, often bunched together in clusters. Asci eight spored 90-100x6µ asco spores smooth, cylindrical 9-11x2µ. Found in mid winter through to spring, on Hazel and Alder. Europe and North America. some specimen are so closed,almost as weren't they ever open., i don't recognized them on the location , few (1-3) specimen were open as a cup and the inner surface was dark,smooth. The most specimen were, as a coffee-bean, on them were no sign, that they should/would be once open (as on the picture with the arrow specially marked).

on the location, was my first thought: ready coffee-bean from the tree ???? :)
I had to do a double take on the thumbnail - at first glance this looked like an old discarded sock!
