Double-crested Cormorant

Phalacrocorax auritus

Description:

This is an all black cormorant that is nearly a meter long. The face has a bare patch of orange around the eye and the flap of skin under the bill is also orange.

Habitat:

These birds were seen in Bray's Bayou, the man-made waterways that goes through the middle of Houston, Texas (30 masl).

Notes:

While the birds were beautiful, I was saddened to see the amount of trash that had been thrown into the channel. And to think that these pieces in the pictures are only those big enough not to be washed away. Very sad.
