Alopochen aegyptiaca
The Egyptian goose (Alopochen aegyptiacus) is a member of the duck, goose, and swan family Anatidae. This is a large African bird, over 65 cm of length, sexes alike (male a bit larger). Brown and cream-coloured bird, with reddish patches around eyes.
It is native to Africa south of the Sahara and the Nile Valley, found in wetlands and around lakes, largely terrestrial and often found perched in trees. Here, observed in wooded shores of lake Awasa - one of the mountain lakes belonging to the Rift Valley, south of Addis Ababa, a paradise for birdwatchers.
