Hermit Thrush

Catharus guttatus

Description:

This individual has returned two years in a row to overwinter on the deck and be pampered with mealworms. He enjoys mocking the cats on the other side of the glass.

Habitat:

Garden in mixed woods.

Notes:

He forages in the leaf litter when the mealworm feeder is empty, but if someone doesn't drop off a small handful in the morning, he will flutter at the glass for attention. I don't generally hold with getting wild animals expecting human handouts, but he has us pretty well trained by now.
