Red Admiral

Vanessa atalanta

Description:

These often get confused for Monarch Butterflies due to the same coloration but note it is not as orange and is much more darker than the Monarch. These also have thick white patterns on the tips of the wings. They are one of the many animals who pollinate flowers to help flowers reproduce. The Red Admiral is small but still pretty good sized to see it clearly.

Habitat:

Wooded areas, and towns, parks.

Notes:

These were one of the 150 bugs on my FFA Entomology list I had to study. They are often found around my house in the spring. This one which I got many shots of was found at Caddo Lake Texas on one of the hiking trails I had to sneak up on him to get the shots. he flew away shortly after I took these. It was a truly awesome experience to get one of these close up.
