Chrysoteuchia culmella
This small moth is one of the most common grass moths in the UK. It is identified by the golden fringe on the edges of the wings and embossed lines that run down them. About 2cm in length, flies during June and July at night-time. During the day, it rests against grass stalks.
Anywhere grassy, the larvae feed on the grass stems.
Spotted for National Moth Week on the University of Essex campus grounds. We found 2 of these particular moths, they seemed to have the peculiar behaviour of moving *away* from the light!!
