White-dotted Prominent

Description:

White-dotted Prominent color is tan or dull orange, yellow-brown or rusty-orange with two small silvery white spots on each forewing.White-dotted Prominent is a large moth with a wingspan of approximately 2 inches (3.8-5.9 cm.).

Habitat:

Transcontinental across the wooded portions of Canada, south to Florida and California. In areas of deciduous and mixedwood forest and shrub land. In some elevation more common in deciduous forest areas, ie. trees or shrubs that lose their leaves seasonally. White-dotted Prominent is nocturnal but attracted to lights.

Notes:

This White-dotted Prominent was resting,sleeping beneath our outdoor carport flood light on the top of my truck. It was a daytime spotting as the moth's coloring allowed it to sharply stand out against the color of my truck,red. It did wake up once moved into a container where I quickly took pictures of it before releasing it. It is a beautiful moth resembling the color of a ripe peach.
