A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Hiundo tahitica
Medium sized swallow. one of the main distinctive features is the rufous bib blending straight into the white breast with no blue boundary as in other species.
Found throughout the North Island of New Zealand. This particular individual was sitting on my house.
One of the first series of bird photographs I have taken. These birds behave like many other swallows, gathering in large groups in the autumn except they don't migrate as such and are residents here. They are also known as Pacific Swallow in SE Asia and other areas of their range.
