Noctuid moth

Episteme vetula

Description:

Very thick bee like body, with black and orange stripes. It had bright orange and black wings with white spots. Its body about 8 cm maybe and wingspan about 12. Palpi upturned, where the terminal joint long and naked. Antennae simple and dilated. Forewings with vein 5 from near angle of cell, vein 6 from upper angle, and veins 7 to 10 stalked. Hindwings with vein 5 from the center of discocellulars.

Habitat:

Our garden near Jungle and mangroves. Ratsada Phuket Thailand

Notes:

Not an easy photo model this moth. Very restless.

Thanks Nina. I did think that it might be a moth, because of its thick body. But what threw me of was that I saw this one at about 9.00 am, sun getting pretty hot. And I have seen more during the same time since. I always thought moths were night creatures. I'll read up on my moth knowledge.

This is a moth, not a butterfly, and is from the group called Arctiidae which is sometimes also called "tiger moths". I am not able to get you a genus or species name b/c it's hard for me to find resources for identifying species from Asia.
