Ornate Hydriris Moth

Hydriris ornatalis

Description:

Moth, with wingspan of 12mm. Hydriris ornatalis (Duponchel, 1832), the Ornate Hydriris, is a moth of the Crambidae family. It has a wide distribution and is known from southern Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa and North America, where it is restricted to Florida. The wingspan is about 16 mm. The larvae feed on Convolvulaceae species, including Ipomoea aquatica. Hydriris Meyrick, 1885, is a genus of pyraloid moths. Sometimes placed in the subfamily Spilomelinae of family Crambidae, it is assigned to subfamily Glaphyriinae by other authors.
