Blackhorned Pine Borer

Callidium antennatum

Description:

About one inch (25 mm) long, black with metallic blue reflections.

Habitat:

Vast open field with yucca, cacti, grasses, various herbs. Found on a heavily eroded path.

Notes:

I found this specimen in an open field with nary a pine tree in sight. These beetles fly well, though, so no telling how it came to be there.
