Opodiphthera eucalypti
Portrait of the penultimate larva of the emperor moth. This vibrant creature advertises colorful spines that are irritating to most predators. Their bodies retain toxic materials from the eucalyptus leaves as a defense.
Eggs found on eucalyptus saplings at Mt Macedon were collected and captive bred.
