Polistes fuscatus
A black, brown and yellow...wasp (?) with a spot or circle on its lower body
In native prairie grass fields, full-sun, seemed to really like this particular flower
Due to its coloring, I kept a good distance from this wasp (?) as it looked like its sting would be painful if provoked.

Thank you so much for your help identifying this wasp ForestDragon, Gordon Dietzman and SheaEckert!! :-)))
I'd agree that this is Northern Paper Wasp, Polistes fuscatus.
I believe this looks closest to Polistes fuscatus, Northern Paper Wasp:

There are a lot of similarities within this Genus that can make ID difficult at times.
I'm thinking paper wasp.
