Northern Paper Wasp

Polistes fuscatus

Description:

A black, brown and yellow...wasp (?) with a spot or circle on its lower body

Habitat:

In native prairie grass fields, full-sun, seemed to really like this particular flower

Notes:

Due to its coloring, I kept a good distance from this wasp (?) as it looked like its sting would be painful if provoked.

I believe this looks closest to Polistes fuscatus, Northern Paper Wasp:

There are a lot of similarities within this Genus that can make ID difficult at times.
