Hypena Noctuid Moth

Hypena conscitalis

Description:

Long-snouted dark brown moth, about 10mm in body length. Hypena conscitalis (Walker, 1866), of family Noctuidae, subfamily Hypeninae. The adult moth has yellow forewings each with a white band along the margin, and a narrower band along the costa. It is found throughout Africa, from Senegal to South Africa, in South and Southeast Asia as well as in Australia and on some Pacific and Indian Ocean islands. Its wingspan is approx. 20-24mm. The larvae feed on Desmodium intortum (Fabaceae).

Habitat:

Backyard garden, spotted on ceiling of the garage.
