Keeled Treehopper

Entylia carinata

Description:

Treehopper being tended to by a couple ants. I saw this adult on this same leaf for over a week, but it was always alone. The last time I saw this kind of hopper, it was in a large group being tended: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/403... (on the same plant)

Habitat:

Mexican sunflower in a shady, suburban backyard

Notes:

E. carinata are often tended by ants, protected in exchange for the honeydew they secrete from anal tubes.
