The grey fox in Belize is a slimmer, more elegant creature than those in more northern climes. Its legs appear a bit longer, and its coat is considerably shorter. This fox had cinnamon fur on the backs of its ears, but little red on the rest of its body. A black stripe ran along the top of its tail. There were two here, but one stayed hidden.
These two foxes frequently trot down the dirt road past my house, between a rainforested hill and my forested home. Sometimes they swerve into the woods below my veranda which is where these photos were taken.
As I had seen them do on a couple of other occasions, they sniffed and foraged for five or six minutes, then indulged in a quick game of tag before trotting on down the lane.
