Stinky Leafwing, Orion Cecropian

Historis odius dious

Description:

This leaf-mimic butterfly is about 2½" from top to bottom. It has orange antennae, and its juice straw is brilliant yellow (or maybe it's clear and the juice is yellow?) You can see it in #2. I never did see the upper side of the wings, which are black with a bright orange band running across them.

Habitat:

This flew in to my ripe fruit bowl from the rainforest, in the foothills of the Maya Mts., western Belize.

Notes:

'Stinky' in its common name apparently refers to the fact that it is attracted to smelly rotten fruit, to which this one certainly was!
