Blinded Sphinx

Paonias excaecata 7824

Description:

Tan wings with dark banding and some areas of violet shading when the light hits it just right. Rose colored hind wing has a large blue and black eyespot.

Habitat:

Spotted on a sheet hanging on my porch with black lights and halogens shining on it at night to attract moths. We live in a gated lake community surrounded by rural agricultural land, and some wooded areas. National Moth Week 2017.
