This pretty purple pea is a climbing plant that belongs to the soybean/soya bean genus Glycine, and a member of the bean family Fabaceae. It is an Australian native, and this spotting is one of a number of species that have been identified in this particular national park, including.... G. clandestina (twining glycine), and G. clandestina var. sericea, G. tabacina (variable glycine and glycine pea), and G. microphylla (small-leaf glycine), all of which are endemic to Queensland. https://wetlandinfo.des.qld.gov.au/wetla...
Spotted on a section of the old Settler's Road along the Mt. Mathieson Trail, in sclerophyll forest at Mt. Mathieson, Spicers Gap. This area forms part of Main Range National Park, and is included in the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. Massive fires have recently burnt through this region, although some sections of the park were spared.
This specimen was found climbing on Lespedeza juncea, another member of the Fabaceae family.
