Dacelo novaeguineae
The Laughing Kookaburra is a large carnivorous kingfisher native to Australia. Juvenile birds remain with their family group for up to a year until they reach maturity, and they will often help raise the next brood of siblings. These two birds are patiently perching, watching out for lizards. Check out the whole series!
Backyard with rockery, with plenty of lizards to prey on.
These 2 birds are daily visitors to a Sydney North Shore backyard, where they find plenty of lizards to supplement their diet. They eventually caught a skink, but I missed that shot as my patience did not equal theirs. As I write this post these two are still visiting daily, the smaller one having now almost reached the second one's size.

Lovely series Daniele!
They're very likable :-) The rocky areas in the garden make a great habitat for lizards and insects, which keeps them coming back.
I love these birds!..so nice for your aunt to have them visiting her backyard! :-)
Thank you Leuba and outsidegirl0! The front-on shot was when they noticed the photographer... luckily they did not fly away.
