Geometrinae Moth (Emeralds)

Description:

about 1 inch long. Upperwing is much darker green than underwing. Rusty brown band on body below thorax.

Habitat:

Pacific Westcoast temperate rainforest, at edge of blueberry field and gardens. Taken at 10 pm.

Notes:

This was one of only 3 moth species that came to my sheet on the second moth event that I did for Moth Week. The other moths that arrived seemed to shun the sheet and land on the ladders that my lights were hanging from. So I decided eventually to turn off a couple of the lights and see if things were just too bright. I think it worked better after that.

Thanks, Fyn. I looked up Nemoria and it does look good. Maybe I will see another one with its wings open yet this season! You have been a great help.

Geometridae, Geometrinae (Emeralds). Can't get to genus (though most likely Nemoria) or species without an open-wing shot.
