armillaria mellea
Ecology: Pathogenic and parasitic on the wood of hardwoods (and occasionally on conifers); causing a white, pulpy rot in the wood; spreading through wood, and from tree to tree, by means of long black rhizomorphs; mushrooms typically appearing in large clusters on wood in the fall after rains, but found nearly year-round in warmer climates; eastern and southeastern North America. Cap: 3-15 cm, convex to broadly convex or flat in age; the margin often arched in maturity; dry or tacky; color extremely variable, but typically honey yellow; smooth, or with a few tiny, dark scales concentrated near the center and vaguely radially arranged. { pics 3,2,6 } Gills: Attached or beginning to run down the stem; nearly distant; whitish, sometimes bruising or discoloring darker. { pics 1,4 } Stem: 5-20 cm long; .5-3.5 cm thick; tapering to base due to clustered growth pattern; tough and fibrous; smooth and pale near apex, darker and nearly hairy below; with a persistent ring at maturity and a white partial veil covering the gills when young. { pics 3,4,5 } Flesh: Whitish to watery tan. Odor and Taste: Taste mild to bitter; odor sweet. Spore Print: White. { pic 6 }
Armillaria mellea grows throughout North America and other parts of the world. The fruiting body or mushroom known as stump mushroom, stumpie, honey mushroom, pipinky or pinky grows typically on hardwoods but may be found around and on other living and dead wood or in open areas
that was the biggest found i made the last years, from edible mushrooms. they were everywhere, the big clusters at the ground, then 2 little clusters round the tree and several clusters at the stem of the tree. I came several night back, to try to let them lighten, (bioluminiscence) but my maglite wasn't strong ( or doesn't had the right light-frequenz {real sunlight spectras}) enough or the fungi hadn't the right conditions for this. (nutritions). i failed to make the shots (sadly). but this time i tried some mushrooms from the cluster, and must say: it isn't really my taste. i will stay by my 3-5 favorited ones. {urban -> because they stand down the little mountain from the street [10 away], this little green-area is something like a city-park}
