Giant Strong-nosed Stink Bug (nymph)

Alcaeorrhynchus grandis

Description:

The nymph was roundish with red and blue-green colors. Wide mouthparts are seen in pic2. This is the 5th instar and is 12–14 mm in length. This is a predatory stink bug and they begin capturing insect prey during the 2nd instar.

Habitat:

Spotted crawling in leaf litter in a wooded area at the National Butterfly Center in Mission, Texas.
