Common persimmon

Diospyros virginiana

Description:

The bark of the tree grows in dark squares. The fruit is astringent when unripe but very popular with North Carolinian humans and wildlife both when fully ripened. It is not my favorite so I leave the bounty from my tree for the deer, birds and insects.

Habitat:

my yard
