Wasp mimic 'Thick Headed' fly

Australoconops sp.

Description:

About 14mm long.
Looks much like the wasp in pic 5 which turned up at the same time.

Habitat:

On the earthbank of a reservoir wall exists a large are covered in flowering ti-tree. Local nature reserve.

Notes:

Have yet to determine wasp species.
