waved sphinx moth

Ceratomia undulosa

Description:

Largish moth, perhaps 6 or 7cm long (2.5 inches) on the bark of an oak tree. I was gardening under the oak tree at dusk with a porch light shining, and it fluttered noisily across the ground, seeming to have trouble flying. But it made its way to the oak tree and climbed up about 7 feet before stopping.
