Pictured here is male, black above and white below, with white stripes on wings and slightly bigger than sparrow. Female is slightly different in colours - here, one of my previous spottings from the same area:


Seen in totally urban setting of Cox's Bazar, on borders of some small paddy fields and ponds.


This is the national bird of Bangladesh, and is called the Doel or Doyel in bangla language. As national symbol, it appears on national currency notes, and there is also a monument to this bird in Dhaka.
